AutoCAD WS update – Now has Design Feed

Autodesk has released the next version of AutoCAD WS Mobile.  Release 1.5 has a very big new feature called Design Feed.  Design Feed is a mechanism for context-specific posts that allow real time and asynchronous collaboration from within the drawing file.

Users add a “post” inside the file and “tag” other people that need this information.  Those people receive an email letting them know about the new information.  They open the file and see what’s going on.  The poster can associate specific parts of the file.  The post can be standalone, post to a point, or post to an area.  This is a nice “zoom to” feature that will make communicating much easier.  Posters can include text or an image.  Imagine that you are on a project site with your smartphone and there is an issue.  Take a picture, post it to the AutoCAD WS file, write in some commentary, tag your collaborator and send.  They get an email and can check it out.  Clearly and efficiently.  If that person was away from the office they still received your email and could look at the drawing via AutoCAD WS on their mobile device.  Problem solved and you are a hero.

Maybe that’s overdoing it but you get the idea.  I like this new feature.  When others receive the post they can respond and choose to “resolve” the issue.  Or you can keep going until the issue is resolved.

The Design Feed tool has also been added to the AutoCAD WS browser version.
