Autodesk Removes Inventor 2013 SP1 just days after it is Posted
Autodesk has removed their Inventor 2013 SP1 patch just days after it was posted. The entire page containing the download file seems to have been removed. Evidently SP1 was “taken down this morning due to an unforeseen memory management regression” per Chris Mitchell’s (Autodesk Inventor Quality Assurance Team) post in the Inventor Forums.
He goes on to say “It will be re-posted shortly. If you have already installed SP1 & are experiencing random instability you can uninstall it & wait for the updated version; otherwise you can leave it as-is & add the hotfix once it is released.”
If you have installed the Inventor SP1 patch Autodesk advise you remove it. Here are instructions for doing so, as posted in the Inventor Forums:
"Windows 7:
1. It is good practice to close out all applications while uninstalling a product service pack
2. From within the Windows Control Panel (Start > Control Panel), select the "Uninstall a program" option
3. Select the "View installed updates" option from the left panel
4. Select "Autodesk Inventor "x" 2013 SP1 (where "x" could read "Professional")
5. Select the "Uninstall" option that appears along the top column of the list
6. Allow the uninstallation to complete
7. Reboot your computer
Windows XP:
1. It is good practice to close out all applications while uninstalling a product service pack
2. From within the Windows Control Panel (Start > Control Panel), select the "Add/Remove Programs" option
3. Select the "Show Updates" check box near the top of the dialog box
4. Select "Autodesk Inventor "x" 2013 SP1 (where x = might read Professional)
5. Select the "Remove" option that appears to the right of the service pack name
6. Allow the uninstallation to complete
7. Reboot your computer
NOTE: In certain situations the uninstallation of Autodesk Inventor 2013 Service Pack 1, through the typical operating system uninstall capability, will have a dependency on the original installation media. We recommend that before attempting this uninstall, you should ensure the original installation media is available and mounted at the same location used during the installation of Autodesk Inventor 2013.
If you included this SP1 Beta within a deployment image of Autodesk Inventor 2013, you should familiarize yourself with an article posted to the Being Inventive Support blog , as Microsoft released a hotfix that addresses a known issue that could potentially be encountered.”

This is the second time this “patch” season that Autodesk has quickly removed a service patch. Earlier Autodesk posted then removed SP1 for AutoCAD 2013 a few days later. (See CAD-a-Blog post on removing AutoCAD 2013 SP1)
So what’s going on with Autodesk and Service Packs?
