I live for Pi Day. I don't know why it has always fascinated me, but it does. I am absolutely in love with Pi Day. I think it's my inner nerd coming out and my love for sweet treats and pizza. I also love the beauty of math. It's a perfect marriage of fun, food, and figures. Best of allit's an opportunity to totally geek out!
This year is being dubbed "Pi Day of the Century" because of the year fitting in rather nicely with the number Pi. Today's date is March 14th, 2015, or put another way 3/14/15. Pi to four digits is 3.1415. Amazing isn't it?
Many people, like myself, are even taking today into the next level. I will make sure to mark the time today to take Pi to the next level, errr, I mean digits! I will also make sure to mark the time and 9:26:53. That's 9:26 (am or pm or both) and 53 seconds because, well, Pi.
Today is Pi day and I love Pi Day!! It’s a day to celebrate math and all of the wonderful things it does for us in our lives. As a society we could not exist without math. Everything we do requires math in some way. You can’t live without math.
Around the globe teachers are taking advantage of Pi Day to help students in a creative way. There are all sorts of Pi Day projects. Here is one example that I found. One student made a Pi song and posted it to YouTube. It was created by MC Squared Equals E and it’s called, “Pi God”. The lyrics are in the notes, just expand them. Great stuff here. Very creative.

Over the past year I have found a great website called QuickandDirtyTips.com. I go there mostly for the Grammar Girl podcast which is fantastic! But I just found the page Math Dude! Yep. It’s a guy that talks about math. He has a great Pi Day post today. Here’s the link:
How are you celebrating Pi Day today? We have several pies ready to go today. One is a Key Lime Pie the other is a Cherry Pie and I think we are going to load it up with ice cream too!! YUM!! Pie Day is yummy!!
The Nerdist Channel made The Pi Episode: Math Bites with Danica McKellar IT IS EPIC!!! Check out all of the nerd cameos in it!
Also, don't forget that it is Albert Einstein's 135th birthday today to!! you know the universe is aligned in some way when Pi Day is the same day as Albert Einstein's birth! What are the odds?
There once was legislation proposed in the State of Indiana
to change the value of Pi from the commonly accepted 3.14 to 3.2. This was proposed by a hobbyist mathematician
that had claimed to discover a method of “Squaring the Circle”. The hobbyist was Edward J. Goodwin, from
Solitude, Indiana and was a physician.
Squaring the Circle is a problem where a square is made that has the
same area as a given circle by only using a small number of steps with a
compass and straightedge. It has proven
to be impossible to do this.
One of my favorite days of the year is March 14th. March 14th, in the United States is known as Pi Day (π Day). The number Pi (π), 3.14159, is a mathematical constant that is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. Pi (π) is used to help calculate many areas and volumes involving circles and arcs.
