Autodesk has officially announced their new logo. It’s not the first time they have done this and it will not be the last. I like it. I don’t feel the need to go on about it but I felt it was definitely worth mentioning. Chris Bradshaw, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Autodesk, discusses the new logo in a blog post titled “Not Your Father’s Autodesk”.
I would expect that this means all of our favorite Autodesk
products will also have new logos. They
haven’t changed too much in recent releases so maybe it’s time. I don’t know.
I don’t too excited about logos, except for my own which hasn't changed
in years either. Maybe I need to follow
suit. I’d rather companies focus their energy
and resources on their product.
That being said, I understand a company’s need for good
quality branding. It also needs to be
accurate in that it somehow reflects the company. Autodesk’s product line has changed over the
past few years in that it has embraced consumers. It’s done this through mobile apps and cloud
services and acquisitions of companies like Instructables and Socialcam. Autodesk is no longer just a high-end, professional
only design tool production company.
They have a much broader base of users that exist in the design professional
industries, media industries and consumers users. It’s a brilliant move really. Perhaps this new logo will help long time
users (like myself) understand that Autodesk is different now.
Or maybe it’s just another new logo.
